Marcus Oldham Learning & Teaching Centre
The Marcus Oldham Learning & Teaching Centre (LTC) is a purpose-built facility reflecting the college’s evolving education model. Designed for flexibility, interaction, and technology-enhanced learning, it provides a dynamic teaching environment that adapts to various learning styles.
At its core, the LTC features a 220-seat auditorium, reconfigurable into three smaller teaching spaces, allowing for large lectures, group discussions, or smaller seminars.
Integrated AV, digital learning systems, and virtual connectivity ensure students remain engaged with industry and global networks.
Positioned as the academic heart of the campus, the LTC enhances campus circulation, with landscaped outdoor spaces and covered learning areas extending education beyond the classroom. The facility ensures Marcus Oldham remains at the forefront of agricultural and business education.
A Building That Supports Modern Learning
The LTC is designed to be adaptable, supporting varied teaching approaches. Unlike fixed classrooms, the auditorium can be divided into three separate spaces, allowing staff to reconfigure layouts based on lesson needs.
This flexibility fosters engagement and collaboration, catering to lectures, interactive workshops, and digital learning. The open, connected layout strengthens student-faculty interaction and supports cross-disciplinary learning.

Navigating Site Challenges & Campus Integration
Significant level changes required a strategic response to integrate the LTC smoothly into the campus. The design uses terracing and controlled entry points to ensure intuitive circulation.
The building’s placement strengthens campus identity, creating a landmark that is both functional and visually connected to surrounding facilities. Sheltered outdoor spaces encourage informal learning and social interaction.
Evolution of Learning Spaces
The Marcus Oldham Learning & Teaching Centre represents a shift from traditional, fixed classrooms to highly adaptable, interactive environments. The design moves beyond rigid lecture halls, offering spaces that can be reconfigured to support different teaching styles, from small group collaboration to industry presentations and digital learning.
This approach reflects contemporary trends in higher education, where engagement, flexibility, and real-world applications are prioritised. The ability to modify spaces based on teaching needs ensures that the building remains relevant as educational methodologies evolve.

Acoustics & Sound Design
The LTC’s acoustic performance was a key design consideration, ensuring that lectures, discussions, and digital presentations are delivered with clarity and minimal disruption. Advanced sound-absorbing materials, spatial planning, and controlled reverberation enhance speech intelligibility across different configurations.
The auditorium’s tiered design and integrated acoustic treatments allow speakers to be heard clearly, whether addressing a full hall or a smaller, partitioned space. This careful attention to sound ensures that students remain engaged and focused, improving overall learning outcomes.
Technology-Integrated Learning Spaces
The LTC is designed for a digitally connected future, integrating cutting-edge AV systems, virtual learning capabilities, and adaptable hybrid teaching environments. High-quality video conferencing, digital projection, and interactive displays enable seamless remote learning and industry engagement.
The flexible teaching spaces support real-time discussions with global experts, ensuring students have access to industry leaders beyond the physical campus. With a fully integrated digital infrastructure, the LTC fosters collaborative and technology-driven learning, preparing students for an increasingly connected and digital-first professional landscape.
